SUNDAY SERVICE GUIDE – APRIL 26th, 2020

Good morning, Rooted Fellowship, Friends and Guests.

Our president has spoken again and even though we will be on Level 4 from 1 May 2020, it looks like we will still be doing ‘church digital’ for a while. We do hope that you are enjoying this platform of church and are feeling blessed by each aspect of our weekly Sunday Service Guide.

So, once again WELCOME!

We are currently in a new  sermon series – The Book of Mark. So, why Mark? The book of Mark portrays Jesus as constantly on the move. The forward motion in Mark’s writing keeps the reader’s mind continually looking ahead to the cross and the resurrection. Mark used the word ‘immediately’ thirty-nine times, giving a sense that Jesus’s time on earth was short and that there was much to accomplish in His few years of ministry. The urgency that Mark communicates in his book gives us the impression that NOW, right NOW, is the most important moment of our lives. We should not waste any part of it so that we can make a significant difference, here TODAY. This series will help us to see that from Jesus’ perspective and how it shapes our everyday lives, as we anchor ourselves in the beauty and richness of the Gospel.

We may not be able to meet physically, but we are so excited to be bringing the Sunday Gathering into your homes. Remember that you are not alone! We still remain a church, although scattered. #thechurchscattered

Here follows a guide to help you worship this morning. Whether you are by yourself or with friends and/or family, we pray that God would meet you in a personal and powerful way.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord and take shelter in Him! Let all the upright in heart rejoice! Let us greatly delight in the Lord; for He has clothed us with the garments of salvation; He has covered us with the robe of righteousness.

Amen

–       Based on Psalm 64:10; Isaiah 61:10

WORSHIP

If possible, spend some time listening and singing along to this song:

SELAH

Psalm 22:1-31 (NLT)

1 My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?

Why are you so far away when I groan for help?

2 Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer.

Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.

3 Yet you are holy,

enthroned on the praises of Israel.

4 Our ancestors trusted in you,

and you rescued them.

5 They cried out to you and were saved.

They trusted in you and were never disgraced.

6 But I am a worm and not a man.

I am scorned and despised by all!

7 Everyone who sees me mocks me.

They sneer and shake their heads, saying,

8 “Is this the one who relies on the Lord?

Then let the Lord save him!

If the Lord loves him so much,

let the Lord rescue him!”

9 Yet you brought me safely from my mother’s womb

and led me to trust you at my mother’s breast.

10 I was thrust into your arms at my birth.

You have been my God from the moment I was born.

11 Do not stay so far from me,

for trouble is near,

and no one else can help me.

12 My enemies surround me like a herd of bulls;

fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed me in!

13 Like lions they open their jaws against me,

roaring and tearing into their prey.

14 My life is poured out like water,

and all my bones are out of joint.

My heart is like wax,

melting within me.

15 My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay.

My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.

You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead.

16 My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs;

an evil gang closes in on me.

They have pierced my hands and feet.

17 I can count all my bones.

My enemies stare at me and gloat.

18 They divide my garments among themselves

and throw dice for my clothing.

19 O Lord, do not stay far away!

You are my strength; come quickly to my aid!

20 Save me from the sword;

spare my precious life from these dogs.

21 Snatch me from the lion’s jaws

and from the horns of these wild oxen.

22 I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters.

I will praise you among your assembled people.

23 Praise the Lord, all you who fear him!

Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob!

Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel!

24 For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy.

He has not turned his back on them,

but has listened to their cries for help.

25 I will praise you in the great assembly.

I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who worship you.

26 The poor will eat and be satisfied.

All who seek the Lord will praise him.

Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.

27 The whole earth will acknowledge the Lord and return to him.

All the families of the nations will bow down before him.

28 For royal power belongs to the Lord.

He rules all the nations.

29 Let the rich of the earth feast and worship.

Bow before him, all who are mortal,

all whose lives will end as dust.

30 Our children will also serve him.

Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord.

31 His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born.

They will hear about everything he has done.

[PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE]

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Our Father in Heaven,

We confess that when times are filled with trouble and uncertainty, we can fail to maintain a steadfast faith in Your provision and protection. We also confess that when circumstances are going well, we can often praise ourselves and our own talents as the source of our success.

Both of these reactions fail to acknowledge Your provision, grace and love for us. Forgive us for so quickly losing hope and for so quickly celebrating in our own efforts apart from you.

Humble us and comfort us in the knowledge that we are Your children, and that You have a perfect plan for us. Grow within us the confidence that comes with truly trusting that You are in full control.

In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray.

Amen.

PRAYERS OF ASSURANCE

Galatians 2:20 (CSB)

20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

GENEROSITY

Jesus is the most generous person Whoever lived: He gave His life so that we may live. As Christians, we give our time, talents, and treasure to respond to God’s generosity in Christ. As we do, this helps others meet Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him, and helps us provide for material and emotional needs inside and outside our church.

Please also remember to read the mail that was sent on Thursday, 23 April 2020 regarding KOS Online. We want to help and if you need help or want to give help, please email us at community@rootedfellowship.com.

As we prepare our hearts to give, let’s say this generosity prayer together.

Generous God, You have given us life, a place to live in, and people to live with.

Open our eyes to each other and to all our brothers and sisters, especially the poor, the oppressed, and the alienated.

Make us humble enough to help and comfort them, so that Your love and justice and peace may come to them.

Make us bold to consecrate ourselves and our gifts to You and to the service of others, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

How to GIVE.

SUNDAY PRAYER GATHERING

In times like this, the most important thing we can do is pray, asking the Lord to intervene, to have mercy on us spiritually and physically, and to provide wisdom as we minister to a hurting world. We will, therefore, once again, host a prayer gathering this coming Sunday evening, so that we can pray together as a family, scattered across the city. We will be meeting on ZOOM on Sunday, 26 April 2020 at 17:00 – 18:00 and we hope that you will be able to join us. Last week, we not only had great connections with one another, but the prayer time was also such a blessing.

If you have not yet downloaded the ZOOM app on your devices, please do so at least 15 minutes before we are scheduled to gather. This can be downloaded by clicking on our meeting link:

SUNDAY SERVICE GUIDE – APRIL 19th, 2020

Good morning, Rooted Fellowship, Friends and Guests.

WELCOME, once again to another different, but so needed, time of worship and appreciation to our Saviour for what He HAS done and WILL do, in and through us.

We start a new sermon series today. We will be walking through the New Testament book of Mark for the next several weeks. You might ask, “Why Mark?”. We are glad you asked! Here follows a guide to help you worship this morning. Whether you are by yourself or with friends and/or family, we pray that God would meet you in a personal and powerful way.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Let us worship God, our light and our salvation.

The Lord is the stronghold of our lives.

We desire to live in God’s house

and to seek God in His holy temple.

We have come with shouts of joy,

to sing and to make music to the Lord.

Let us worship God in spirit and in truth.

Teach us Your ways and make straight our paths

in this hour of worship and always.

—based on Psalm 27; John 4:23

SELAH

Psalm 146:1-10 NLT

Praise the Lord!

Let all that I am praise the Lord.

I will praise the Lord as long as I live.

I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.

Don’t put your confidence in powerful people;

there is no help for you there.

When they breathe their last, they return to the earth,

and all their plans die with them.

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper,

whose hope is in the Lord their God.

He made heaven and earth,

the sea, and everything in them.

He keeps every promise forever.

He gives justice to the oppressed

and food to the hungry.

The Lord frees the prisoners.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.

The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down.

The Lord loves the godly.

The Lord protects the foreigners among us.

He cares for the orphans and widows,

but he frustrates the plans of the wicked.

The Lord will reign forever.

He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations.

Praise the Lord!

[PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE]

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord,

we confess how hard it is to trust You in the storms of life. We question whether You truly see us and doubt Your power to save. When our circumstances are at their most terrifying, our faith seems so small. Help our unbelief and remind us that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today, nor our worries about tomorrow — not even the powers of darkness can separate us from Your love.

Help us to see that we are more loved and more cared for than we could ever imagine.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Take a moment to intercede for the needs of our city, country and world. Feel free to pray this prayer below or as you feel led.

Our Father in Heaven,

When we’re down and helpless,

when lies are reigning,

when fear and indifference are growing,

may Your kingdom come.

When joy is missing,

when love is missing,

and unbelief is growing,

may Your kingdom come.

To those who are sick and lonely,

to those who are imprisoned and tortured,

may Your kingdom come.

Into the churches,

into our praying, into our singing,

may Your kingdom come.

Into our hearts,

into our hands, into our eyes,

may Your kingdom come.

We ask all of this in the beautiful name of Jesus,

Amen.

DISCUSSION AND PRAYER

Share with someone what resonated with you. What do you sense God is saying? Take time to pray in response to God’s Word communicated to us.

GENEROSITY

Giving changes our hearts.

The mission of the church is to make disciples that love God and love people. Nothing puts us in that position more than loosening our grip on the stuff that’s valuable to us. When we let go of stuff, we make space for God. We trust Him more. Also, in the midst of that trust, we experience incredible intimacy with Him.

As we prepare our hearts to give, let’s say this generosity prayer together.

Yours, Lord, is the greatness,

the power and the glory,

the victory and the majesty.

All that is in the heavens

and in the earth is Yours,

and You rule over all.

Therefore, Lord, receive these offerings,

our tangible expressions of love and gratitude.

Transform them into a source of life for many,

so that Your kingdom may grow

in the hearts of all.

In the name of Jesus.

Amen.

How to GIVE.

BENEDICTION

The peace of God,

which passes all understanding,

keep your hearts and minds

in the knowledge and love of God,

and of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord;

and the blessing of God Almighty,

the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

remain with you always.

Amen.

SUNDAY SERVICE GUIDE – APRIL 12th, 2020

HE IS NOT HERE, BUT HE HAS RISEN!

Good morning, Rooted Fellowship, Friends and Guests.

We want to extend a warm welcome to you today as we once again gather for a time of worship and appreciation to our Saviour for what He HAS done and WILL do, in and through us.

Let’s be honest, this is not how we imagined Easter 2020 would go. More than anything, all of this is reminding us that we are not in control, that we are not the masters of our own destiny, and that while we should make plans, we should hold them lightly, because we don’t know what the future holds.

Though this may be true, it does not mean that we cannot have hope. In fact, times like this should drive us to the One who gives us hope – the One who remains certain in times of uncertainty. This Sunday couldn’t be a more beautiful day to remind us where we find our ultimate hope.

Our certainty can be found in these three powerful words – HE IS RISEN.

It’s in these words that we can trust in God’s character and look forward with hope. God is still at work and up to something, and it means that this Easter is a special one.

We may not be able to meet physically, but we can still celebrate Easter, even if it’s through digital platforms. We are so excited to be bringing the Sunday Gathering into your homes.  Remember that you are not alone! We still remain a church, although scattered. #thechurchscattered

Here follows a guide to help you worship this morning. Whether you are by yourself or with friends and/or family, we pray that God would meet you in a personal and powerful way.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Out of the darkness of grief and despair

comes a message of hope. Christ is risen.

Christ is risen, indeed.

We run to the tomb to see for ourselves.

And it is true. Christ is risen.

Christ is risen, indeed.

We hear a voice call our name,

and we know our risen Lord

is with us now and always.

Christ is risen.

Christ is risen, indeed.

Thanks be to God.

[PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE]

PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

Our Father in heaven,

We serve a risen Saviour, yet live as if in chains. Forgive us, Lord that we are so hesitant to live the resurrection life. Forgive us that we fail to show through word and deed the truth that You loved us into Your kingdom through the glorious mystery of the Cross. Forgive us that there is still fear in our lives that prevents us from being who You have called us to be. Draw us close. Open our eyes to the glory of the risen Christ, our hearts to the wonder of the Cross and our hands to the service of Your kingdom where You have placed us. That Your name might be glorified through our lives.

In the name of the Risen King, Jesus Christ,

Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Take a moment to intercede for the needs of our city, country and world. Feel free to use the prompts below or as you feel led.

–        Pray that you and your family would experience the power and assurance of the resurrection of Christ.

–        Pray for those you know personally, but who don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Pray that the Lord would open their eyes to the finished work on the cross that secures for us salvation and everlasting joy.

–        Pray that today the Gospel would be preached faithfully and boldly all across the world.

–        Pray for those who are vulnerable, poor, hurting, and alone, that through the Church they would experience the love, care and provision that comes from God.

We ask all of this in your beautiful name,

Amen.

How to GIVE.

BENEDICTION
